The father of the bride is a cherished role in a bride’s journey. Today, we want to honor these special men. For Maggie Bride, Megan, her father played an especially important role. Megan, whose mother passed away 9 years ago, knew when the day came to shop for her wedding dress, it just wasn’t going to be the same. She searched for a few months with friends and family, but to no avail.  While visiting her home town in Iowa, her dad suggested they try one more store. We’ll let Megan tell the rest…

“Dad and I walked into the store on his lunch break. We were the only ones in the store, surrounded the satin, taffeta and rhinestones. Dad is built like a football player, so even if I didn’t find my wedding dress, I knew this was going to make for a good story to share as I watched Dad flip through the racks of dresses, headpieces, and shoes. I set my overflowing wedding binder on the counter and flipped through the sea of clipped magazine pages and explained, ‘I’m looking for something couture…and big… and breathtaking!’ To my surprise, the sales person said they had just the dress, that it had only arrived earlier that week.

“I asked Dad if he was ready to see the dress, and as I came out of the dressing room, Dad’s eyes filled with tears and he nodded his head yes. I balanced on my tip toes and swooshed and swayed with the dress. We had found “the dress” and both knew Mom was with us.” See more from Megan’s stunning wedding below.

Favorite part of the dress: “Tulle, tulle, tulle!  Layers and layers of tulle made me feel like I was wearing a piece of art.  The Carissa dress was the perfect pairing of couture and classic styling.”

Favorite wedding day moment: “I’ll never forget my ‘first look’ with Mike.  My heart pounded out of my chest with each step I took towards him and when I said he could turn around to see me, I was overwhelmed with happiness.  Tears streamed down my face and I knew at that moment it was going to be the best day.”

Advice for future brides: “Do not sweat the small stuff.  Plan, organize, and check off your to-do list in your tabbed binder to your heart’s content, but remember when your Big Day arrives, your number one priority is to relax, enjoy, and have fun!”

He taught you how to ride a bike, parallel park, and do a lay-up. He’s been your biggest fan and your most vigilant protector.
