We think we have decided on our wedding theme. We are having loads of white - white flowers etc with hints of black and green. I want to get my bridesmaids pale green dresses or perhaps white dresses with light green sashes, As we are getting married in the lakes I want to create a really fresh and clean theme in keeping with the surroundings. I love what Confetti have done with theese colours - mini champagne bottles for favours and white cameras with sage coloured ribbon wrapped around it etc. My Mum however said that green is unlucky at weddings? What do you think?
I heard this a s well, it used to be an old tradition that if the bride had an older unmarried sister, she wore green. This apparently attracted the bad luck to her, and not the bride (bieng unmarried, she was considered unlucky anyway)
Anyways, so I was told "oh you can't have your bridesmaids in green!" and poeple kicked up a fuss. My bridesmaids will be in hunter green and ivory dresses. They both love their dresses and so do I.
I think a white and green and black theme sounds lovely and fresh and elegant.
Tell superstition to go hang!
It's a victorian superstition which is hardly based on much more than fashion. It's a rhyme about the colour of the BRIDES dress though, no mention of green elsewhere being bad. The logic goes that a promiscuous bride rolled in the grass and got her white dress all green (ahahah) so it supposedly symbolises infidelity. But this is only the BRIDES dress.
My bridesmaid is in teal green, i'm having a teal green wrap. I was gonna wear a green dress but couldn't find one.
If you believe in superstition then meh, but most people are logical these days and the fashion trends of the victorian era is hardly cause to cut out a whole colour. Green and white will look GORGEOUS.
I love green! have been looking at a gorgeous teal green wedding dress (though not sure yet) anyway an old superstition is that it is unlucky for the bride to wear green, unless she is irish. but there are lotsa superstitions! so I guess it all depends on whether you are supersticious or not but if you love it go with it!
The color green has been known to symbolize nature. Considered to be the color of peace and ecology, green offers a sense of renewal, self-control, and harmony. What a wonderful reason to choose green bridesmaid dresses for your wedding, right? Not according to some superstitions and tales!
A woman who was set to marry in a green wedding dress was said to be unlucky in general and the bride was known to have loose morals because her dress would be grass-stained due to rolling around in the fields, according to a United Kingdom website. Hence the saying, “Marry in green, ashamed to be seen.” Thank goodness things have changed along the way. While brides presently may not opt to wear a green wedding dress, their bridesmaids can choose from a variety of green tones that make lovely summer bridesmaid dresses.
The most popular colors of green bridesmaid dresses featured today are light-like mint green bridesmaid dresses. They look radiant and complement cool skin toned bridesmaids. With subtle silver undertones, mint green dresses can easily enhance bouquets filled with tulips, daffodils, roses, and other summery flowers and garden greens.
Another popular shade of green that many brides select for their wedding party are emerald green bridesmaid dresses, which can also be worn during the summer, but look ultimately chic during weddings that border summer and fall seasons-like September and October or even winter into spring months like March into April.
If the bride to be is unsure about which color to choose, she can visit her favorite wedding retailer website or boutique to browse bridesmaid dresses by color, and keep a color-meaning guide with her to help make her selection. While green bridesmaid dresses have overcome the stigma of misfortune, brides to be may still be wary about making a dress selection in that color. Or, some other brides of Irish descent may decide that green is a color of luck, as it is reminiscent of a green 4 leaf clover.
Before choosing green bridesmaid dresses, be sure to brush up on the history behind them and how they have overcome their reputation today.
