Kate Halfpenny is an award winning celebrity stylist and costume designer, who in 2005 launched her namesake bridal and couture collection Halfpenny London. Having spent over a decade designing dresses, her talent for creating elegant and form fitting looks has garnered the attention of celebrities and directors worldwide.
Kate graduated with a BA Honors in Fashion Design in 1998 and went on to study for an MA in Textiles from London’s prestigious Central St. Martins, feeding her obsession with fabrics, lace and beading. This knowledge and experience, combined with Kate’s skills as a stylist, gives her an unparalleled ability to design and create breathtaking wedding gowns.
Often described as an ‘industry secret’, Kate’s unique aesthetic is highly regarded. Frequently asked to design custom-made pieces for the fashion set, she has most recently been accredited with a bespoke commission for British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman, which the editor wore to the 2012 Royal Wedding. Acknowledged as an expert in her field, Kate was invited to report live on the Royal Wedding for BBC America.
As an editorial stylist her work has regularly featured in top style publications, including covers for Vanity Fair, and has seen her collaborate with some of the industry’s most revered photographers and directors. Kate is called on for seasonal campaigns for the likes of Moschino, Hugo Boss, L’Oreal, Marks & Spencer, Rimmel, PlayStation, Ghost and Dove to name but a few. Her designs are coveted by many influential figures such as Kate Moss, Emilia Fox, Erin O’ Connor, Rihanna, Daisy Lowe and Cheryl Cole, all of whom she continues to work with.
Summer 2013 sees Kate opening her Halfpenny London flagship bridal boutique in Bloomsbury, central London. The boutique will see Kate’s visionary bridal creations split into four collections, each with their own unique aesthetic and signature style running through all her entirely British made pieces.
Kate has captured you in every stitch of that dress” my best friend said to me on my wedding day. It helps that she is one of my greatest friends, but ever since I met Kate Halfpenny when she turned up on my doorstep five years ago, she immediately understood who I was.
It is just one of the many talents that makes her such a unique and extraordinary designer. She can knock you up the dress of your dreams, hand-make the flowers for your veil, make you a necklace that everyone asks you where you got it from, style you from top-to-toe or simply refresh your wardrobe with a few new key pieces, and this is before we get to her day-to-day jobs which include styling for fashion editorial, commercial advertisements and costume designing.
It is Kate’s personal touch which makes her so gifted as a dress designer. She understands the importance of getting the dress right for the event. She wants every Client to feel special and stresses the importance of creating these dresses together, making sure the experience is exciting, effortless and enjoyable, always understanding that her dresses are a big spend and so must be completely perfect.
